Activity 1: Mobile Learning
Technology is today’s world is rapidly changing, and mobile
devices now are so convenient for everyone to use. There are smartphones, tablets, e-readers,
IPads, wireless projectors, educational apps, and multiple user apps that can
work well in classrooms.
Case studies does show that students respond well and show
an increase in motivation to learn.
Using any mobile devices properly and effectively in a classroom can
greatly improve the learning outcome.
I can create a classroom using several methods with the help
of mobile devices and by using some guiding principles.
First, I will either show a video on the projector and/or model
with my assistant on how to use the mobile device and how it will help our
lesson for today.
Second, depending on what type of lesson activity, I will
break the class into groups or individually and have them collaborate with each
other during the activity.
Lastly, I will assess the students by presenting their work
in front of the class as a group or individually, and correct and comment on
their work.
So, my lesson for today would be to create a book about
sports on their IPads and present their work in front of the class.
All my students have IPads to use solely for educational
purposes.
-
- It is a great device with lots of apps for young
learners
-
- It is light weight and portable
-
- It can use on-line apps for brainstorming and
for collaborating
-
- It can also be used to assess other students’ work
-
- It can be used as a voice recorder and/or a
video recorder for any assignments
The classroom can use Airplay or any other wireless routers
to connect several devices at the same time
-
- It has a universal adapter that can connect to
any mobile wireless device
-
- It is Mac OS and Windows compatible
-
- It can connect to the overhead projector
The classroom has an overhead projector
-
- It can to almost any mobile devices that has
wireless capabilities
- - It can project standard video, HD, zoom, and
pause capabilities
- - Students or teachers can enlarge or zoom out and
have students view the work all at the same time
The school has an on-line assessment and evaluation program
-
- It helps keep track of all the progress and
activities being covered
-
- Parents, students, and teachers can learn and
discuss about their children’s development
-
- Having a digital on-line backup is always good,
just in case your computer crashes or fails
-
- Teachers can also better understand which
student requires more help in certain areas
So having a mobile device greatly improves their motivation
in learning and class participation. If
the students did not have a tablet, then they would not be able to show
everyone their work on the projector. If
the students had to create a poster, and show the students 1 by 1, then it
would be time consuming and won’t be able to correct mistakes instantly,
whereas if it was on a digital format, the presentation would run a lot
smoother and not waste paper.
